Fasting

"As members of the Church we fast one day each month. This means we go without eating two meals. We do not eat or drink anything for about 24 hours. We believe that fasting helps us have strong spirits.

"Our Father in Heaven has told us to give an offering called a fast offering. This offering should be what we would have spent for the meals we did not eat on the day when we fasted. We should give more than this amount if we can. Our Father in Heaven will bless us if we do. These offerings are used to provide food, shelter, clothing, and other things for those who are in need. When we pay fast offerings we show we love our fellowmen."(Gospel Principles manual)

Blessings if I obey this law:

"The Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not." (Isaiah 58:11)

Strong Spirits (See first quote above).

And they did impart of their substance, every man according to that which he had, to the poor, and the needy, and the sick, and the afflicted; and they did not wear costly apparel, yet they were neat and comely.(Alma 1:27).

"Fasting gives you confidence to know that your spirit can master appetite. . .fortifies discipline over appetite and helps to protect against later uncontrolled cravings and gnawing habits." ." ("Self Mastery," Elder Russell M. Nelson, Ensign November 1985)

fasting is joy, D&C 59:13–14:"l ". . . that thy fasting may be perfect, or, in other words, that thy joy may be full.
14 Verily, this is fasting and prayer, or in other words, rejoicing and prayer." (See also "The Index to the Triple Combination: fasting, fast)
